‘Children of Fire’ target banks in İzmir

The ‘Children of Fire Initiative’ has claimed responsibility for attacks on banks in İzmir and said: "There is only one language that the enemy understands. We will respond to them in that language."

The ‘Children of Fire Initiative’ released a statement announcing having destroyed ATM machines and windows of banks in Izmir-Karabağlar. The statement says: "The terrorist Turkish state is exploiting all the wealth of Kurdistan and transferring it to Turkey. This money is used to finance bombs that turn all places where Kurds are to be found into a hell."

The Initiative appeals to the "resistant women thirsting for freedom", the "honourable Kurdish men", the "children shot dead in Nusaybin", the "families and friends of the young people torn apart by Turkish bombs in Roboski and the victims of the Dersim massacre", the "young and old working in the Turkish metropolises": "Not everyone can do everything, but there is always something that everyone can do, including you! You too, with your language, your hand, your eye or your feet, do damage to fascism! There is only one language that the enemy understands. We will respond to them in that language."

Militant groups in Turkey

In Turkey and Northern Kurdistan, various militant groups have been carrying out actions for quite some time, mainly against buildings and vehicles. Apart from the Children of Fire Initiative, groups operate under the names YPS/YPS-JIN and "revenge units". The urban guerrillas of the Peoples’ United Revolutionary Movement (Halkların Birleşik Devrim Hareketi, HBDH) also repeatedly draw attention to their cause with actions in various parts of the country.
