The hearing of the trial against 29 children accused of riots during a protest against the rights violations in the Diyarbakýr E Type Closed prison on December 15, 2009 has taken place today.
Some of the children stated they rioted to fight the harassment and physical violence as three wardens summoned as witnesses claimed they were not in the prison on the day of the incident.
Thirty-one child inmates were transferred to prisons in eight different cities after the incident. The children are being accused of damaging public property and rioting in prison. A defendant, R.A., told that the wardens suddenly came into the ward and took six prisoners including him to cells as V.K. said they were beaten by the wardens in the cell.
The next hearing will take place on 3 April.
