CHP (Republican People’s Party) Istanbul MP and Human Rights Parliamentary Commission member Mahmut Tanal wasn’t allowed to make a statement following the “KCK” (Kurdish Communities Union) main trial at Diyarbakýr Court.
While police prevented MP Tanal from making a statement on the trial of Kurdish politicians on the grounds of “Chief Prosecutor’s order, Tanal reacted to the interference and remarked that extraordinary practices were implemented in Diyarbakýr.
Following a short speech with police authorities, Tanal made a short statement and called attention to the violations of procedure in the “KCK” trial. Tanal pointed out to the high number of plainclothes policemen and military officials in the courtroom.
Tanal also called attention to the prevention of defendant’s self-defense by turning off their microphones and remarked that the court obstinate with the defendants in this regard. Tanal added that the soldiers in the courtroom didn’t allow him to shake hands with IHD (Human Rights Association) Diyarbakýr Branch Chair.
