CHP leader will go to Diyarbakýr next week

Kemal Kýlýçdaroðlu, the newly elected leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), is expected to visit Diyarbakýr next week to give a message on the Kurdish issue. Eyes would be on Kýlýçdaroðlu as he came under criticism for not using the word ‘Kurd’ in his convention speech last weekend when he was talking about the Kurdish issue. The Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) was very critical of Kýlýçdaroðlu who reduced the Kurdish issues to the solution of the Kurdish population’s economical problems, as if these were the only or main problems.

Speaking to daily Milliyet, Kýlýçdaroðlu said: "If it’s an art to use the word ‘Kurdish,’ we’ll use it. I didn’t say Kurdish, but I didn’t say Turkish either, or Circassian. I don’t find it right to place ethnic identity and beliefs in the middle of politics. People can’t choose their parents, so we can’t use ethnic identity and beliefs to fractionalize them."
