Turkish police forces carried out house raids in Mardin and Amed (Diyarbakır) provinces early Wednesday morning.

Several houses were raided in Nusaybin and Kızıltepe districts of Mardin where three Kurdish politicians were arrested; Co-mayor of Nusaybin Municipality held by the HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party), Ferhat Kut; Nusaybin Municipal Councillor Mehmet Emin Alkan and DBP (Democratic Regions Party) Mardin provincial branch co-chair Leyla Bozkurt.
The politicians were reportedly detained within the scope of an investigation opened in Mardin and they were taken to Mardin Security Directorate.
Lawyers said they could not learn details of the file, due to the confidentiality imposed on it.
The number of detainees may increase.
According to reports, police forces also raided the HDP Nusaybin district office as part of the same operation.

On the other hand, Bağlar Municipal Councillor Nursel Örmek was detained following a police raid on her home in Amed’s central Bağlar district. The reason for Örmek’s detention could not be learned.
Another Kurdish politician detained in today’s Mardin-centered opertion is Bismil district co-mayor Gülşen Özer whose house in Bağlar was also targeted by the police. Özer has been taken to Diyarbakır Security Directorate and she is expected to be transferred to Mardin following the procedures in Amed.
