Cologne mayor: Appointment of trustees dangerous move

The political coup by the AKP that appointed trustees to Amed, Van and Mardin municipalities was protested in Cologne and Marseille. The mayor of Cologne Andreas Wolter said he considers the appointment of trustees dangerous.

In Cologne, a demonstration against the trustees appointed by the AKP was organised by the Democratic Kurdish Community Center in front of the city municipality.

Activists organised the protest during the Cologne City Council meeting and Cologne City Council Die Linke group chair Jörg Detjen and independent municipal councilor Hamide Akbayır welcomed the activists who gave a file to Detjen.

Then the Mayor of Cologne Andreas Wolter spoke to activists. Volter said that he knew Gültan Kışanak and he knew she and other mayors had been arrested. “I see this as a very dangerous situation,” said Wolter.

The mayor of Cologne added that he watched with concern the situation especially in Istanbul, which was lost twice by the AKP.

Wolter said that he is ready to assist with anything he can help locally.

MARSEILLE

A protest against the AKP seizure of the HDP-run municipalities of Amed Van and Mardin, has been going on in Marseille since 19 August, the day the State appointed the trustees.

On Wednesday an information stand was opened in the Vieux Port square in the city center.
