Contradictory statements are being made this morning about what really happened in the operation to "stop" the hijacker of a passengers ferry. What is certain is the execution-style killing of the hijacker.
Contradicting the governor of Istanbul who earlier this morning said the assailant was neutralized and he was carrying a bomb stripped to his body,
Kocaeli Governor Ercan Topaca argued instead that “No bomb was found on the person who hijacked the ferry". Topaca confirmed that "He had cables and bottles stripped to his body in a shape resembling a bomb-belt”.
Topaca also said that the assailant had been confirmed to be carrying what he said was a "fake identity card carrying the name K.A." It is understood that the real owner of the “City Card”, which had allegedly been found on the assailant's body, was taken into custody in Erenler Neighborhood in Izmit.
