A delegation of eight members from the Council for the Catalan Republic, led by the former president of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, paid a visit to the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK).
The Catalan delegation consisted of Prof.Dr. Josep Alay, academician Guillen Fuster, deputy Sergi Miquel, political scientist Adria Alsina, Alba Bosch, 12th and 13th term deputy of the Catalan parliament Aurora Madaula, former parliamentarian and Barcelona City Council member Antonio Castella.
After a reception ceremony, the Council for the Catalan Republic held a meeting with the KNK’s Executive Council, presided by KNK co-chair Ahmet Karamus. During the meeting, presentations and briefings were made about Kurdistan and Catalonia.
Carles Puigdemont and Aurora Madaula, leaders of the Catalan independence initiative and members of the European Parliament, made the opening remarks on behalf of the Catalan Council. KNK co-chair Ahmet Karamus and KNK Executive Council member Nilüfer Koç spoke on behalf of KNK.
The developments in Catalonia and Kurdistan, as well as the problems faced by the Catalan and Kurdish people, were addressed during the meeting, which lasted for four hours. The groups decided to continue dialogue and solidarity in order to improve mutual relations between the two countries.
