Court postpones trial of co-mayors of Ipekyolu

The second hearing of the co-mayors of Ipekyolu, Azim Yacan and Şehsade Kurt, who were arrested after the AKP appointed a trustee to the municipality ended with the postponement of the hearing.

Co-mayors of Ipekyolu (Van), Şehsade Kurt and Azim Yacan, were elected after winning the local elections of 31 March 2019. On 8 November the municipality was seized by the AKP that appointed a trustee and arrested the two freely and legitimately elected mayors.

The second hearing of the trial was held at the Van 7th High Criminal Court.

The court postponed the trial until 17 June 2020. Yacan is on trial on charges of "being a member of an illegal organisation and making propaganda for an illegal organisation", while Kurt is accused of "being a member of an illegal organisation."
