The trial against Sebahat Tuncel and Gültan Kışanak has been postponed for the 11th time. The court ruled that the two politicians will remain in prison.
The 11th hearing of the case against Sebahat Tuncel, former co-chair of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Gültan Kışanak, the co-mayor of the usurped Amed Metropolitan Municipality (DBB), on the allegation of “being a member of an illegal organization” and “making propaganda for an illegal organization”, was held in Malatya. Kışanak from Kandıra Prison and Tuncel from Ankara Sincan Prison attended the hearing via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBIS). Lawyers Mehmet Emin Aktar, Mesut Beştaş and Cihan Aydın joined the hearing from Diyarbakır Courthouse also through SEGBIS, while lawyer Hasan Doğan was in the courtroom.
Kışanak answered the court board's question regarding the Sarmaşık Association, which was closed by Decree Law. Kışanak said: "The accusations against me regarding the Sarmaşık Association are pure fiction. When the AKP helps, there is no problem, when I help, I become a 'terrorist'. The poor are poor, is there any difference?"
Pointing to the ongoing Kobanê Trial in Ankara, Tuncel said that it was a "conspiracy" against Kurdish politicians.
Noting that Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu targeted them, Tuncel said: "Millions have been watching the relationship between Süleyman Soylu and the gangs. Turkey is shaking up. Not even a single prosecutor gets up to take action. But when it comes to Kurds, action is taken immediately."
Lawyer Cihan Aydın pointed out that the trial has been going on for 4 and a half years. "This is a shame to your job and the robe you wear."
The court decided the continuation of the detention of Tuncel and Kışanak and adjourned the trial to 22 July.
