Danish politician says PKK should be removed from terror list

Danish politician Pernille Frahm, a former member of the European Parliament, said that the PKK should be removed from the "list of terrorist organizations", which favours the interests of the Western world.

Former parliamentarian Frahm said that the lists created in the Western world are the lists of groups that the US and Western Europe deem as enemies. She noted that the only reason the PKK is on the list is that the Western powers need Erdogan's loyalty.

Frahm, one of the signatories of the campaign to remove the PKK from the list of terrorist organizations launched on December 13, 2021 under the guidance of the International Initiative for Justice for the Kurds, spoke to ANF.

Frahm said that the PKK ban is a reward for Erdogan's Turkey. “I was a member of the European Parliament in 2001 when the attack on the World Trade Center changed the political developments in Europe and the rest of the world. I was on LIBE, the civil rights committee of the EP, when the parliament was introducing new policies to combat terrorism. It was very clear that the terrorist list was the outcome of political negotiations between states that the US requested to be ally with against terrorism. They needed air bases in Turkey for a military attack on Afghanistan and Iraq. The reward was to turn the enemies of the Turkish government into the enemies of the Western world,” Frahm told ANF.

Frahm remarked that the "list of terrorist organizations" is made according to the interests of the Western world, and the list can also be updated in case of interest change.

The politician cited the listing and delisting of the People's Mujahideen in Iran as an example. "It was argued that the West no longer needed the help of the Iranian leaders, so we don't need to fight their enemies."

LIST OF ENEMIES OF WESTERN ALLIES

Frahm stated that the lists introduced in Western countries are not lists of dangerous groups. “This is a list of strategic friends and enemies of the US and Western Europe. The only reason the PKK is on the list is because the PKK is seen as hostile to Erdogan's Turkey and the West needs Erdogan’s loyalty.”

WE ARE ON THE RIGHT PATH

Frahm pointed out that European society should be informed as part of the efforts to remove the PKK from the ‘terrorist organizations list’. “Circumstances have been shifting in recent years, I think we will be successful in the fight for justice for the PKK and the Kurds. In the meantime, it is always important to make voters in Western Europe aware of injustices. Western parliaments have recently decided to realize it, and we are on the right path.”
