Death toll from coronavirus rises to 1,101 in Turkey

According to official figures, 1,101 people have died of Covid-19 in Turkey where 52,167 cases have been recorded.

Turkish Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca announced the latest figures of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country on Twitter.

According to figures, 33,170 tests have been conducted in Turkey on Saturday, 5,138 being positive. 95 more people have died today, bringing the death toll to 1,101.

According to the latest figures, 340,380 people have been tested in Turkey so far and 52,167 of these have been confirmed infected. 1,626 are in intensive care and 1,021 are intubated. 2,965 of those infected have recovered.

On Friday night, Turkish Interior Ministry announced a two-day curfew in 31 cities as part of measures against coronavirus.  The curfew involves the Zonguldak city in the north of country and 30 metropolitan cities; Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Aydın, Balıkesir, Bursa, Denizli, Diyarbakır, Erzurum, Eskişehir, Gaziantep, Hatay, İstanbul, İzmir, Kahramanmaraş, Kayseri, Kocaeli, Konya, Malatya, Manisa, Mardin, Mersin, Muğla, Ordu, Sakarya, Samsun, Şanlıurfa, Tekirdağ, Trabzon and Van.

With the declaration of the 48-hour curfew, two hours before it was put in place, people in thousands rushed outside for shopping.

The government said shops such as bakeries, pharmacies and designated gas stations as well as package and postal delivery companies, emergency call centers and animal shelters, are among the businesses that will remain operational.

People working at "newspapers, radio stations and television networks" are also exempt from this curfew under Article 3/h of the Interior Ministry’s circular.

The chairman of the Turkish Medical Association TTB, Sinan Adiyaman, spoke to German media DPA and cast doubt on the official number of deaths, saying the number of Covid-19 cases was rising, but the corresponding graph of deaths was not developing accordingly.
