The trial of seven members of Democratic Solution and Peace Group was held at Diyarbakýr 4th High Criminal Court yesterday. The group of 34 members, included four children, came to Turkey from Kandil and Maxmur on 19 October 2009 upon the call of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Following the presentation of 11-page Kurdish defense of Democratic Solution and Peace Group members, the trial of seven detained defendants ended in the Court’s decision for the continuation of detention.
The Court had no choice but to accept the Kurdish defense owing to the fact that defendants don’t know the Turkish language. Ruling that the defense letter will be translated into Turkish through an interpreter, the Court rejected oral defense in Kurdish and wrote down that ‘defendants wouldn’t make a statement in Turkish’.
The trial was adjourned to 17 January 2012.
