"Defend Kurdistan" demos in Berlin, Stuttgart and Frankfurt

Demonstrations were staged in Berlin, Stuttgart and Frankfurt on the occasion of the day of action "DEFEND KURDISTAN - against the Turkish occupation".

On the occasion of the international day of action, demonstrations under the slogan "Defend Kurdistan - against the Turkish occupation" took place in several cities in Germany - including Berlin, Stuttgart and Frankfurt. The day of action was called by the #Delegation4Peace, which took a stand against the Turkish attacks in South Kurdistan in June and met with political parties and civil society organizations. The Kurdish umbrella organization KON-MED, various internationalist organizations and Berlin Antifa groups had joined the call and called for participation in the international day of action and demonstrations.

Berlin

In Berlin about 200 people gathered at Hermannplatz in Neukölln in the early evening, among them many internationalists and people who were part of the peace delegation and reported about their experiences. In speeches, the war that is currently taking place in South Kurdistan was discussed. One speaker criticized in particular the attitude of South Kurdistan’s ruling party KDP and its collaboration with Turkish fascism and warned that "the Kurds will be a pawn of the big powers and occupying states unless they stand up for their brotherhood and unity".

Also the German-Turkish collaboration was denounced and the arrests of delegation members after their entry at Frankfurt Airport sharply condemned. Along the entire route of the march to Oranienburger Platz in Kreuzberg, the crowd saluted international solidarity.

Stuttgart

In Stuttgart, a demonstration also took place as part of the Day of Action. At the head of the protest march with several hundred people were activists of the Kurdish youth movement. They carried a front banner with the inscription "Werin Cenga Azadîyê" ("Come to the struggle for freedom"). The march was stopped several times by the police, allegedly for chanting the slogan "Bijî Serok Apo" - meaning “Long live leader Abdullah Öcalan”. The action ended in front of the main train station.

Frankfurt

About 500 people took part in a demonstration in the Main metropolis Frankfurt. Many of them came from cities in the surrounding area, for example from Mannheim, Giessen, Darmstadt, Mainz and Saarbrucken. There were also numerous actions, rallies and demonstrations around the globe.
