HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş and Şırnak parliamentarian Faysal Sarıyıldız met officials from the United Nations Human Rights Council Secretariat and asked them to take action regarding the massacres committed by Turkish forces in Northern Kurdistan, mainly in Cizre, Silopi and Sur.
HDP co-chair Demirtaş, MP Sarıyıldız and representative in Europe, Eyüp Doru, who arrived in Switzerland for a series of talks on the invitation of the Swiss Parliament's Kurdish Friendship Group met with Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The meeting witnessed a discussion on the lifting of parliamentary immunities, violence committed in Northern Kurdistan, the attitude of European countries on the refugee crisis and solutions. Demirtaş put emphasis on the fact that European parliamentarians and representatives should undertake a more active role for the advancement of democracy and peace in Turkey.
The HDP delegation later met with Gianni Magazzeni, Chief Americas, Europe & Central Asia Branch Field Operations and Technical Cooperation Division in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) whom they informed about the losses of lives and destruction caused by the military operations in the Kurdish region of Turkey.
Demirtaş pointed out that they were ready for any cooperation with the UN officials in order for a more effective investigation into the massacres, on which -he said- they had many documents and information to serve as a proof.
HDP deputy Faysal Sarıyıldız stated that he witnessed the massacre in Cizre personally, and that they could share the related photos, images and witness statements in the event of being asked to do so. Magazzeni said all the related information and documents were of importance and that they could have the opportunity to conduct a more effective practice in the event of receiving them.
Sarıyıldız and Soru later met with officials from the Red Cross and asked them to take an active role to relieve the victimization caused by the military operations in the Kurdish region.
