HDP Co-president Selahattin Demirtaş said that the 2015 Newroz would bring freedom to the peoples of the Middle East, adding that rather than making demands of the state they would solve their own problems.
HDP Co-president Selahattin Demirtaş spoke at yesterday’s Newroz celebration in Hakkari, saying: "On 7 June we will present the oppressed of Turkey with a great victory.”
Demirtaş said that the 2015 Newroz would bring freedom to the peoples of the Middle East, adding that rather than making demands of the state they would solve their own problems.
HDP Co-president and Hakkari deputy Selahattin Demirtaş drew attention to the letter of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan which will be read out at the Newro celebration in Amed. He recalled that Mr Öcalan had launched the process of resolution at Newroz 2013 and that although since that time the guns had been silent in the mountains, young people were still being shot dead in the street.
Demirtaş added that people were continuing to die in Rojava. “If the guns are quiet this is down to Mr Öcalan and popular support. We do not want this to end and we have pledged to do our utmost to ensure a lasting peace,” he added.

Demirtaş said that despite all their efforts for peace and democracy, the government continued to insult them, recalling President Erdoğan's comment that: "There is no Kurdish question, what do you want? You already have everything".
Demirtaş said: “We don’t want anything from you. When you were PM 363 children were shot dead. You still haven’t accounted for Roboski. There is nothing we want from you. We will resolve our problems ourselves. We will build peace and education in the mother tongue gradually ourselves, hand in hand with all the other peoples of this country.”
'We have made our preparations for the elections and we will triumph’
Demirtaş mentioned the general elections of 7 June, saying that they would present the oppressed of Turkey with victory. “We have become the hope of all those who have lost all hope in the AKP mentality. On 7 June we will emerge as a new alternative government in Turkey. We want to run the country, not be the ones who are being gassed, beaten, arrested and slaughtered. The time has come for us to be in government. We have made preparations for this,” he said.
