Imprisoned Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş sent a statement on the revoking of Siirt MP Besime Konca’s MP status.
The message Demirtaş sent is as follows:
“The reckless attacks by the AKP-MHP coalition against elected representatives of the people are practices that can only be seen in fascist administrations. After our Co-chair Ms. Yüksekdağ, our MPs Nursel Aydoğan, Faysal Sarıyıldız, Tuğba Hezer and Besime Konca have had their MP status revoked - the latest instalment of the tyrannical practices that have nothing to do with the law or political ethics.
Over 80 municipalities have been confiscated and had trustees appointed, which is another severe example of usurpation and attacks against the will of the people. These elimination operations targeting our party for so-called ‘ties to terror’ have been voided through our resistance, and we will continue to resist.
If the AKP wants to see ‘ties to terror’, they can look at their own parliamentary group, their mayors and their party administration. If some public prosecutor’s offices are protecting and hiding AKP MPs, even ministers and high-ranking AKP officials on Bylock lists, they should know that they become complicit in these crimes and they will face justice in the future. Our people and history won’t forget that some judicial organs turn into hawks against the HDP, but hares towards the AKP.
Ms. Besime Konca’s stance and struggle gives us all hope and honor. We condemn this unlawful attack on the will of women and the will of the people in general in her person. We salute Ms. Konca and all our friends, sending our solidarity, greetings and love.”
