Speaking at the parliamentary group meeting, BDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaþ said that the Turkish government is acting with extreme prejudice.
Pointing out that over thousand Kurdish politicians have been imprisoned for 14 months, Demirtaþ said; “Thousands of people were arrested in the past year without knowing the precise charges brought against them. The government makes no statements, which is another kind of summary execution.
At the order of the Interior Ministry, police and gendarmes carry out new operations and add new names to the list of detained people. Such an unreasonable and lawless behaviour has never been witnessed anywhere else. Yes, we are the party that take off the mask of the AKP (Justice and Development Party). If the AKP wants to take its revenge against us, then the only way would be in an election. We have no fears nor worries, and we are indeed ready for an early election."
Demirtaþ pointed out the response to the heavy military operations in Lice: members of parliament, mayors, non-governmental organization leaders and intellectuals went to the area to act as "human shields". He also stated that everybody should take the responsibility to stop the pains and tears of the mothers.
Demirtaþ also explained that they were not allowed to enter the operation area and said; “Months ago we had expressed our anxiety about the increasing clash risk. If we had been taken seriously, there would not have been 30 deaths. Despite the fact that we had stated our will to give our support in the search for a solution to stop the bleeding and clashes, the government’s attack on the BDP reveals their opinion about peace. It is easy to talk about wanting peace while taking no step to achieve this.
On the one hand the government is announcing an "initiative" for peace; on the other hand it is saying that “it is being prevented from taking the initiative further”; this is a big lie".
Demirtaþ underlined that the sentence to 166 years in prison passed on Vedat Kurþun, the former-Editor of Azadiya Welat newspaper, is "a summary execution".
Demirtaþ concluded his speech by defining the Iranian government as an “Execution Government” and demanded an end of the executions calling for the “people” to show their opposition.
