Newly elected deputy for Hakkari Selahattin Demirtaþ said: "The people of Hakkari is now expecting an apology from the Prime Minister who called the people of this city cowards, saying that the shopkeepers are threatened to close their shops during protest actions. Despite so many difficulties and all kinds of cheating and tricks, our people have continued the struggle". Demirtaþ added that "Despite all his efforts, the Prime Minister wasn't able to prevent the sunrise. Hakkari, once more is writing history. This city has thrown the fascists out of the territory. I extend my endless thanks - said Demirtaþ to women and the youth in particular, to our administrators, families who united with the people in this period, presumptive nominees who gave a great support to us in all our works and to press laborers who devotedly did their duty day and night. I feel honored and I am proud of being a Colemêrgin representative. And you can be sure that I will never put you to shame."

In Hakkari the independent candidates top the poll with 79.87 percent of the votes (up 23.63 percent from the 2007 general elections). In Hakkari the ruling AKP got 16.42 percent of the votes loosing an incredible 17.07 percent. A clear response to the Prime Minister's arrogant and aggressive attitude towards the city.
