BDP Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaþ, DTK Co-chair and Mardin MP Ahmet Türk, DTK Co-chair and Van MP Aysel Tuðluk, BDP Muþ MP Sýrrý Sakýk and BDP Diyarbakýr Co-chair Zübeyde Zümrüt are attending the main trial of the ‘KCK’ case where 152 Kurdish politicians stand trial.
Making a statement before the trial in Diyarbakýr, BDP Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaþ started his speech remarking that not a single progress has been made although the trial continues for the last three years. Demirtaþ said the followings;
“As stated by Deputy Prime Minister Beþir Atalay as well, these arrests are commanded from Ankara. The decision for these trials will be made by Ankara, not the court. The trials here are only for Show. The judges and prosecutors give efforts but they have no authority. The legal order is under custody while ministers make instruction-like statements and the directorate of security and intelligence guide the judiciary by means of the media. The judiciary is commanded by the community organization of the AKP. In this case, the courthouse is nothing more than an inoperative authority.”
Criticizing the legal process of the KCK case since no development has been recorded apart from reading the accusation, Demirtaþ underlined that; “The state’s operations harm Turkey, not the BDP which doesn’t leave any struggle area empty. It is not possible to prevent a civil movement through arrests and preventions. On the other hand, we don’t believe that the trial will end in justice because of the fact the prosecutors are exposed to pressure by the PM, his ministers and the National Security Council. We describe the continuation of detentions as a major negligence. The state should end the ongoing operations and the political genocide, release our comrades and recognize freedoms. Democratic initiatives will otherwise remain unfulfilled. We will continue to display our resistance.”
Speaking after Demirtaþ, DTK Co-chair Ahmet Türk emphasized that Kurds wouldn’t have an expectancy of a new constitution in a process when five thousand Kurdish politicians are held in prison. Türk said the followings; “Kurds are in need of an area to express their thoughts freely so that the constitutional process could progress wholesomely. The present occupancy and implementations show that Turkey is following a mentality which aims to suppress the Kurds. The same practices were implemented in the past as well; Kurds were always exposed to cruel policies but they have never made any concessions. The only way to settle this matter would be to initiate a process of a common sense. We don’t expect much from this trial today since the courts aren’t the decision maker authority.”
