Demo in Basel in solidarity with refugees and against Turkey

The Turkish state was protested in Basel. Activists joined the demo against Turkey and its handle of the refugees crisis.

Thousands of refugees piled up on the Greek border after the Turkish government said it would open its borders to Europe. Greece has banned refugees from entering and attacked them.

The action in Basel was supported by Swiss alternative youth groups and civil society organizations, as well as immigrant organizations. Hundreds of people gathered at Claraplatz.

The activists carried banners saying 'Stop the death of refugees, open the doors to refugees', 'Shoulder to shoulder against fascism'.

Activists were attacked by the police with tear gas.

Activists, who wanted to walk to the central train station and were blocked, marched to Voltaplatz instead.

Activists blocking the road at Voltaplatz read a statement calling on people and institutions to act in solidarity with refugees.
