The Democracy Vigil in Van reached day 27. The Vigil has been going on since the seizure of the municipality by the AKP, on 19 August.
The Democracy Vigil against the seizure of the municipalities of Amed, Van and Mardin has been carried out since 19 August, when the AKP dismissed the democratically and freely elected HDP mayors and replaced them with trustees.
In Van the Vigil is on its 27th day and its taking place in front of the Ipekyolu District building.
HDP deputies, municipal co-mayors, Peace Mothers' Assembly and many people participated in the action on day 26. HDP Van Deputy Muazzez Orhan addressed the crowd.
Orhan said: "Our resistance continues against this unlawful violation. We have repeatedly stated that the trustees in the past meant nothing but theft, extortion, and corruption.
Today, once again the government has appointed trustees. Two days ago, the President held a legitimate meeting with 26 mayors and 3 illegitimate trustees."
Reminding the 15 July coup attempt, Orhan said: “The KHK [decree law] meant the dismissal of 150,000 workers. Parents and their children were left without a future. Those hundreds of thousands of laborers still have to live at the margins of the society without knowing what their 'crimes' were. Dozens drowned in the seas on their way abroad because they could not bear the fascism of this country."
Orhan added: "We are ready for solution. We are ready for any kind of mediation for an honorable peace. Neither Turks can survive without Kurds, nor Kurds without Turks. The interlocutor of this issue is clear. Mr. Öcalan presented his solution".
Orhan called on the minister to meet with Mr. Öcalan and work on a solution.
