Demonstration attacked by police - UPDATE

Thousands of people turned out to the demonstration to protest the massacre by Turkish warplanes near the village of Roboski. The crowd was attacked by police while BDP Diyarbakýr deputies Nursel Aydoðan and Altan Tan tried to negotiate with police.

Police used tear gas to attack demonstrators who took to the streets today in Cizre district of Þýrnak to condemn the Roboski slaughter. Clashes continue between police and protestors who include hundreds of students as well.

A 16-year-old student was wounded today as a result of the police attack on a group of students who have also boycotted schools against the slaughter since yesterday.

Following the statement of students, the mass started to march before attending the press statement of civil society organizations. While police directly targeted the mass with gas bombs soon after, the mass has dispersed into groups at side streets. Events continue from place to place in the district where intense security measurements have been taken against demonstrators since yesterday.

The Roboski slaughter has also left its mark on the 32nd trial of the ‘KCK’ case against 152 Kurdish politicians on 30 December. While the court rejected the defendants demand for the suspension of trials because of the slaughter, Kurdish politicians stood up and protested the court clapping their hands. The court board therewith cleared defendants out of the courtroom on the grounds of disturbing the discipline of the trial.
