Protests and demonstrations against isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Öcalan, were organised in various Swedish cities.
Different actions were promoted in Stockholm, Helsingborg, Göteborg and Malmö.
Stockholm
A meeting was promoted in Norra Bantorget Square in Stockholm. Kurds and their friends condemned the isolation imposed by the Turkish state on Öcalan and declared their support to hunger strikers.
Left-Party MP Lorena Delgado Varas, in her speech recalled that the Kurdish people’s Leader has been held in isolation since 1999 and that conditions have worsened in the past 2 and a half years.
Varas commended the hunger strike initiated by HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven and said that the meeting granted to Öcalan’s brother Mehmet did not mean the end of isolation.
Varas joined Leyla Güven’s demand to end isolation.
She called on the Swedish government to take a stance and support the end of isolation and the release of all political prisoners.
Left Party MP, Ilona Szatmari Waldau, co-chair of the Swedish Democratic Kurdish Community Center Rıdvan Altun, Women’s Peace Initiative representative Latife Fegan, Uppsala Left Party executive Yekbun Alp, and Ann-Margarethe Livh, former Deputy Mayor of Stockholm, condemned the isolation imposed by the Turkish state against Öcalan and reiterated support for the hunger strikers.
Göteborg
A press conference was held by the Democratic Kurdish Community Center in Götaplatsen Square.
In the statement, activists exposed the human rights violations and massacres carried out by the Turkish state in Kurdistan.
NCDK Co-Chair, Abdullah Konya, said that isolation is a crime against humanity under international law. He urged the international community to take action to ensure the removal of isolation against Öcalan.
Çeko, one of the 14 hunger strikers in Strasbourg, spoke to Swedish activists by phone. He warned people to stay alert against the dirty maneuvers by the Turkish state.
The hunger striker said that it was not enough for Öcalan to have met his brother for 15 minutes and that isolation should be completely removed.
Helsingborg
Kurdish activists have been handing out leaflets exposing the massacres and isolation of the Turkish state for four days.
During a protest in front of the city hall, activists commended HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven for the hunger strike she has been carrying out for 81 days demanding the end of isolation against Öcalan.
Malmö
Kurds have been organising different actions for the past three days in the city centre and train station.
