The activists handed out leaflets prepared by NAV-DEM and a speech held during the demonstration called for freedom for Abdullah Öcalan and legal status for Kurdistan.

Naime Erdem Başaran spoke in the name of HDK-A Hamburg initiative and pointed out the situations of Şebnem Korur Fincancı, Ahmet Nesin and Erol Önderoğlu, who were arrested because they joined the campaign “Editor-in-Chiefs on Watch” campaign to defend press freedom in the face of oppression faced by the Özgür Gündem newspaper. Başaran stated that since June 7, 2015 the President of Turkey and the AKP had been using political power to dysfunctionalize the executive, legislative and judicial powers under their monotype rule, that an autocratic administration was openly implemented and that everybody who rejected this and showed solidarity received their share of the oppressive actions of this dictate regime.

SKB members also attended the rally where internationalist Sevda Çağdaş who was martyred in the operation to liberate Manbij on June 25, 2016 was commemorated.

At the end of the rally, a call was issued for strong participation in the demonstrations held in line with the campaign “Freedom for Öcalan, Legal Status for Kurdistan”.
