Demonstrations for Shengal in 7 Swiss cities

Hundreds led by women took to the streets in many cities of Swiss, to condemn the Shengal genocide on its 3rd anniversary, giving the message "We never forget, we never let it be forgotten".

On the occasion of the 3rd anniversary of the Shengal genocide, hundreds of women followed the call of the Kurdish Women's Movement in Switzerland, and took to the streets in the Swiss cities Zurich, Basel, Lausanne, Bern, St.Gallen, Kuzern and Winterhur, to condemn the genocide.

The activities which were supported by Swiss Feminist Women’s organisations, conveyed the message that the Êzidî community and Êzidî women in particular must be given support.

LAUSANNE

Upon the initiative of Lajin Women's Council in Lausanne, many Kurds gathered in front of the Church St.Laurant, and protested the Shengal genocide.

In the beginning, the activists didn't speak for half an hour and raised banners which depicted the genocide in French, holding flags of the PKK, YPG, YPJ and posters of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

After the silent protest action, speeches were held on the extent of the genocide and the necessity to increase the support for the Êzidî community.

BERN

Upon the call of Mizgin Women's Council, people of Kurdistan and their friends gathered at the Weisenhausplatz Square in Bern city where they joined a demonstration against the Shengal genocide.

The activity started with a minute of silence for the victims of the genocide, and continued with a play depicting the horror witnessed in the massacre.

Speeches were held in German and Turkish, which recalled the course of the genocide and condemned the silence of the international community in the face of the tragedies in Shengal.

The speakers said: "As Kurdish women, we will never forget the massacre and genocide perpetrated against the Êzidî community, and we will never let it be forgotten", and called on the international community to assist in rescuing the women who are still kept hostage in the hands of the ISIS gangs.

The activity ended after the speeches with slogans.

ZURICH

Beritan Women's Council organised a demonstration in Zurich in front of the Frauen Munster which was joined by many people.

Placards and banners condemning the genocide were carried by the activists, while speeches were held calling for the protection and support for the organization of the Êzidî community.

The activists condemned the policies of the KDP and stressed how the PKK rescued the Êzidî community from the genocide.

BASEL

Upon the initiative of Ronahi Women's Council, hundreds of Kurds and their friends gathered in front of the parliament in Basel and condemned the Shengal genocide.

To emphasize the preceding 72 massacre decrees which were enacted upon the Êzidî community, candles of the same amount were lit, and a play presented the resistance which followed the massacres and genocide on 3 August 2014.

Speakers called on the international community to recognize officially the mass killings as a genocide, so that the massacre and the resistance in the face of the tragedy will never fall into oblivion.

ST.GALLEN, LUZERN, WINTERHUR

Also in the Swiss cities of Luzern, St.Gallen and Winterhur, many Kurdish people and their friends held demonstrations to protest the Shengal genocide on its 3rd anniversary.

Placards and banners which condemned the genocide were raised, and statements were made which stressed that the genocide of the Êzidî community will never be forgotten.
