Deniz Poyraz commemorated in Ankara

A memorial service was held in Ankara for Deniz Poyraz, an HDP member who was murdered by a Turkish fascist in Izmir a month earlier.

The HDP Ankara Provincial Association has commemorated HDP member Deniz Poyraz, who was murdered in İzmir province a month ago. At the memorial ceremony, red roses and chamomile flowers were laid in front of Deniz Poyraz's picture at the party headquarters. The picture bears the inscription "Deniz Poyraz is immortal". The provincial association named its meeting room after the murdered activist. At the event, the song "İşte gidiyorum" (Here, I'm leaving) was played by her favorite musician Kazım Koyuncu, while the co-chairs of the Ankara HDP Provincial Association, Perihan Pakize Sinemillioğlu and Vezir Coşkun Parlak, delivered speeches.

"We will expand our uprising"

Sinemillioğlu recalled the words of Deniz Poyraz's mother: "One Deniz goes, but a thousand Deniz come". She continued, "We are angry and we will continue to fight in the streets. Killing us will not bring a solution. We will become Sakine, Delal, Rahşan, Deniz and strengthen our uprising."

Parlak recalled the massacres of the past to the present and stated, "Just as the massacres of Koçgiri, Maraş, Roboski are still fresh today, we will always remember what was done to our friend Deniz."

The murder of Deniz Poyraz

Deniz Poyraz was shot dead with six bullets in a fascist-motivated attack at the HDP headquarters in Izmir, which is under round-the-clock police surveillance, on June 17, 2021. According to the crime scene report, the 27-year-old perpetrator, Onur Gencer unlocked the locked door of the executive committee's office by shooting at the lock. Subsequently, the room and other offices were vandalized and all the windowpanes were broken. The fascist fired another shot at a picture of the imprisoned Kurdish politician Sebahat Tuncel.
