Dersim support the "Munzur's Son", Ferhat Tunç

The support of the people of Dersim is all for Labor, Democracy and Freedom Block’s Independent Candidate Ferhat Tunç. The “Munzur’s Son” as they call the artist . Supported by the city’s citizens, political parties, civil society organizations, union representatives, human rights activists, artists, Roma, Armenians, Kurds, Tunç says: “I have been the voice of this people until today. I will continue to be their voice in the future.”

Because of an accident he suffered, Labor, Democracy and Freedom Block’s Independent Candidate Ferhat Tunç has walked through his home town with crutches for a month. Every single house has welcomed him as “Munzur’s Son”. Doors are open to Tunç who is now canvassing knocking at the doors of the very people he has been visiting as an artist for many years. Tunç has attended dozens of meetings and initiatives in the past few months. People are asking him to bring their requests to Ankara. They fight against dams, destruction of forests, human rights violations. But they have one special demand for the artist: to carry on the work on the 1937-1938 Dersim genocide.

Tunç: I am pride of my Kurdish and Qizilbash identity

Known in Turkey and worldwide because of his 30 years activity as an artist, Ferhat Tunç recalled that he had been detained while on stage and exposed to torture many times for pronouncing the word “Dersim” in years when it was forbidden to use. Tunç said he is proud of his Kurdish, Alewi and Qizilbash identity. An identity he has never hidden in his entire life. Tunç, noting that he will keep his fight against those who want to turn Dersim from a paradise into a hell and that he will continue to defend people’s honour, said the followings; “Ferhat Tunç has never been an artist happy and satisfied with going on the stage and singing. There has always been more than that for me. Running the risk of death, knowing that I will be sued, I have never played a blind-deaf role against the spoilt circle of the system. I would have never been able to do that".

Tunç added: "After 12 June general election, if I will get a seat in parliament I will go to Ankara to solve the hundred-year belief, language, culture and identity problems of Dersim. I am going to Ankara to carry Dersim history there, not to be a bureaucrat. I have no doubt that people will decide whom to vote for bearing in mind the history of Dersim which has been under attack since 1937. Our young people are still dying on the mountains".

Tunç pointed out that "Israeli project police stations, costing 8 million TL, are built with the tax of our people. We do not want those stations in our territory. There is now a chance, a real chance to solve the Kurdish Question. We will spend our energies in trying to create a tourism paradise in this territory which has been condemned to war and tears".

Mayor Cetin: Tunç is the true representative of the people of Dersim

The mayor of Pertek, Kenan Cetin said: “We support Labor, Democracy and Freedom Block’s Candidate Ferhat Tunç because he is the candidate of a block created to stand against the Kemalist and the political circles. We believe Ferhat Tunç will fight to bring the real problems of our territory to the table”.

Eðitim Sen: The Block is of vital importance for us

Eðitim Sen (the teacher's union) Dersim Branch Chair Hasan Olgün said: “The general election on 12 June will be of great importance to us, the workers. The Labor, Democracy and Freedom Block will defend the rights of workers against the attacks of the ruling AKP".

EMEP: The party system game will not last long

EMEP (Labor Party) Dersim Provincial President Hüseyin Tonç said: “Dersim is a territory with a history of sorrow and pain going back to the '30s. This territory has been the victim of destruction, war and forced evictions of his citizens. However, the revolutionary, democratic and patriotic forces of Dersim have always shared the pain of the people and stood near them. Especially in this election process, we have been fighting together with the Kurdish people for peace, equality and democracy”.

DISK: We stand by Tunç and labor side

DISK/Genel-Iþ Union Branch Chair Hasan Cicek said: “We have no doubt that the Labor, Democracy and Freedom Block will be representing the interests of workers in parliament. As DISK/Genel-Is Union, we support the block which represents us. We are in no doubt that “Munzur’s Son” Ferhat Tunç will keep fighting for the solution of the Kurdish Question, the ending of military and political operations, the right to education in mother language”.
