Special operations police (PÖH) take center stage in the war against Kurdish people declared by AKP on July 25, 2015. In the ongoing actions and clashes in the Kurdish region, hundreds of JÖH (Gendarmerie Special Operations) and PÖH have died, and hundreds more have been injured.
Due to the high losses suffered, around 1000 special operations policemen have signed petitions in order to be removed from the branch. The requests of special operations units asking to be transferred to “general service” were rejected.
According to reports in press close to police sources, Police Director General Celalletin Lekesiz has interfered the case personally and tried to convince the units. Lekesiz sent written instructions to 62 provincial police directorates and demanded that the crisis be solved.
