More than 30 people have been taken into custody today following a series of police raids in many institutions and houses early Tuesday morning. Police search in some addresses is continuing and the number of detainees is expected to increase.
The operation against Gezi protestors came at dawn as usual , targeting 56 addresses in the district of Sancaktepe. 26 people were detained in anti-terrorism units' operation in the district, reportedly including readers of Özgür Gelecek (Free Future), Devrimci Demokrasi (Revolutionary Democracy), Partizan and Kaldıraç magazines as well as a member of the ESP (Socialist Party of the Oppressed).
Police are currently searching the house of Deniz Bin, Sancaktepe district secretary of Halkın Kurtuluş Partisi (People's Liberation Party).
In a statement about today's operation, Aka-Der (Anatolian Cultural and Research Foundation) chairperson Altan Açıkdilli said that Aka-Der Sancaktepe Branch Chair and Aka-Der member Düzgün Polat have also been taken into custody following the raid in their houses at 5 a.m. today.
