Egypt and Iran condemn the Turkish massacre of civilians in Iraq

Growing reactions after the deadly Turkish shelling that claimed the lives of nine local Arab tourists on a popular picnic site in the countryside of the Zakho district in Duhok province.

On Wednesday, nine Arab tourists were killed by the Turkish army during the shelling of a picnic site in the countryside of the Zakho district in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). While the victims include small children, 23 people with injuries are still being treated in hospital. 

The Foreign Ministry of Egypt released a statement offering their condolences and condemning the attack. The ministry called for the protection of civilians in accordance with international law.

A similar statement of condemnation came from the Foreign Ministry of Iran. The ministry spokesman Nasir Kenani put emphasis on the importance of Iraq’s security, offering their condolences and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.
