Eighteen people were detained on Wednesday afternoon during demonstrations against the Higher Education Board (YÖK) in Ankara and Antalya.

The demos were organized on occasion of YÖK 31st anniversary.

After they refused to disperse, demonstrators were attacked by police in Ankara with tear gas. Thirteen people were taken into custody for staging an illegal demonstration.

Antalya police also took five people into custody after a group of students held a demo at Akdeniz University.
