Senator Menendez, the Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is expected to make a decision within a week as to whether to abandon his opposition to the sale now that Turkey has agreed to let Sweden into NATO.

The Emergency Committee for Rojava issued an appeal to "call Senator Menendez and tell him not to agree to the US sale of F16 fighter jets to Turkey."

The Emergency Committee for Rojava prepared a short message and called on anyone to record it and send it directly to the senator. 

The message reads as follows: "Senator Menendez, as the Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, you promised in your tweet on October 12 2022 that you would ‘not approve any F-16 sale to Turkey until Erdogan halts his campaign of aggression across the region. Full stop.’ As you know, if anything, Turkey has only been more aggressive in the region, using drones to kill SDF leaders critical in the fight against ISIS and bombs to kill and maim civilians. F-16 fighter jets will be used for the same purpose. I am asking you to make good on that tweet and please maintain your opposition to the F16 sale."
