Emergency press briefing about Abdullah Öcalan takes place today

An emergency press briefing will take place to demand action for the security and well-being of Kurdish political leader Abdullah Ocalan.

Over 40 unions, parties, experts will today demand action for the security and well-being of Kurdish Political Leader Abdullah Ocalan in a press briefing that will take place in Brussels at 11.30 am.

The conevnants of the press conference are deeply concerned that the institution in the Council of Europe that is responsible for monitoring the conditions of Mr. Ocalan’s incarceration, The Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), is not providing the public with sufficient information. Mr. Ocalan’s family, his lawyers, and the Kurdish people at large are requesting that action is taken to address this appalling situation.

The press briefing will highlight the completely inadequate response by European governments, European Union (EU) human rights organisations, and the Council of Europe, and will point out that their failure to act makes them complicit in this infringement and abuse of basic human rights.
