Erdoðan shows Zana the way to mountain
Public Prosecutor of Ankara has launched an investigation against Diyarbakýr Independent MP Leyla Zana following the statements of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoðan who instructed the judiciary about Zana's words during the AKP group meeting on January 10.
PM Erdoðan has most recently targeted Leyla Zana who several days ago in an interview said that; “I wouldn’t discuss about laying down arms which are an assurance for Kurds as long as the Kurdish issue exists.”
Referring to the statements made by Zana, Erdoðan said the followings in his speech at group meeting two days ago; “I am reporting these statements to the judiciary. If this is what you think, then why did you ever come to the Parliament instead of going to the mountain? This parliament is a democratic parliamentary system and there is no parliamentary system where you can bear arms. It seems that you became a member of parliament to voice these expressions.”
In the interview to Yeni Özgür Politika paper, Zana said the followings; “The armed struggle has reached a certain point today. I wouldn’t discuss about laying down arms which are an assurance for Kurds as long as the Kurdish issue exists. There is a mutual lack of confidence between Kurds and the state and some steps need to be taken to remedy the current situation. I am of the opinion that the most considerable step should be taken by the state which executes injustice on Kurds. Laying down arms shouldn’t be brought to agenda before the state ensures status and a legal assurance for Kurds. Still, I side with the silence of arms because we shouldn’t lose any more young people in this war. All of us will feel a deep sorrow for the dead when we ensure a dialogue process in the periods to come.”
In the event of considering the matter as a “terror crime”, the Public Prosecutor of Ankara will convey a summary of proceedings to the Parliament and demand the lifting of Zana’s parliamentary immunity. On the other hand, Public Prosecutor of Diyarbakýr is also reported to be preparing to launch an investigation against Zana.
