ESP Chairperson Çiçek Otlu jailed

Leader of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed has been imprisoned as part of the AKP government’s political genocide operations against the opponent circles.

ESP (Socialist Party of the Oppressed) Chair Çiçek Otlu had been detained in Istanbul in an Dersim-centered operation on April 4 morning, and then taken to Dersim where she was held in custody for 7 days. Not long after her release, Otlu faced an arrest warrant upon an appeal of prosecutor’s office.

ESP Leader was taken into custody in Ankara Tuesday night and was referred to Ankara Courthouse Wednesday afternoon. Otlu gave her statement to Tunceli Courthouse via video conferencing system SEBGİS, and said “I reject this action taken against me to restrain my political activities”.

The court ruled imprisonment for the ESP Leader who met the verdict saying “No one can cow us into submission”. The first hearing in the case will be held on November 8.

As part of the same investigation, many people including ESP Central Executive Committee Member İlke Başak Baydar, SGDF (Federation of Socialist Youth Associations) Central Executive Committee Member Beren Atıcı and HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) Party Council Member Ekber Kaya had been jailed in April.
