The Left Unity Group, Green Group and Friends of Kurds Group in the European Parliament in Strasbourg have issued a statement condemning attacks on the HDP. In the statement the groups drew attention to the AKP jeopardising the election process and said they would send a delegation to monitor the elections.

Zimmer: Erdoğan is inciting attacks

Left Unity Group Chair Gaby Zimmer said the bomb attacks on the HDP were no coincidence, saying they were part of efforts to prevent the party achieving success at the elections. Zimmer said the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had opted to use language that incited attacks and targeted the HDP, adding that as regards topics such as the Kurdish question, Cyprus and relations with the EU Turkey was at a crossroads. She said they would send a group to monitor the 7 June General Elections in Turkey.

Vergiat: process is under threat

Kurdish Friendship Group Co-chair Vergiat said attacks had reached a dangerous level as part of attempts to prevent the HDP exceeding the threshold, adding that the Turkish government was jeopardising the peace process.

Green Group Co-chair Harms said: "We are concerned about the attacks and we condemn them all, in particular the bomb attacks on the HDP's Adana and Mersin offices." She added that as a party and group they had decided to send a group to monitor the elections.

The attacks on the HDP are expected to be discussed today in the European Parliament during a debate on a report on Turkey.
