The EUTCC (European Union Turkey Civic Commission) has sent a letter to Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, asking them to send a message for the 10th International Kurdish Conference.
Turkey, the Kurds and the Imrali Peace Process: An Historic Opportunity. This is the title of the 10th conference on EU, Turkey and Kurds which will be held at the European Parliament in Brussels on 4 and 5 December, and will be the occasion to talk about the state of the current process in Turkey towards a peaceful solution of the Kurdish question.
The letter, reportedly sent to Öcalan and Erdoğan by EUTCC chair Kariane Westrheim and EUTCC secretary general Michael Gunter, saluted the İmralı talks and voiced concerns over the deadlock it is currently facing.
The letter underlined that Turkey's participation in the EU would also contribute to the achievement of a permanent solution to the Kurdish question, and that the Kurdish question could only be resolved through mutual dialogue.
Noting that the course of the peace process depended on Öcalan and Erdoğan, EUTCC put emphasis on the importance of building peace in order for a solution to the problems of Turkey's peoples and further democracy in the country.
The letter ended with a call to Öcalan and Erdoğan to send a message to the International Kurdish Conference about the current state of affairs in the ongoing talks and negotiations in search of a democratic and peaceful solution to the Kurdish question.
Among the speakers to attend the Conference from Turkey are MP Ms. Leyla Zana, MP Ms. Gulten Kisanak, co-Chair, BDP, MP Mr. Sezgin Tanrıkulu, CHP MP for Istanbul, Mr. Hüseyin Yayman, Academic, Member of Wise People Commission, Turkey Mr. Dogu Ergil, Academic, Member of the Wise people Commission, Turkey Mr. Hasan Cemal, Journalist, MP Mr. Ahmet Türk, co-Chair of the DTK, Turkey.
The three main panels will be focusing on Reforming the State and Reconciling Society: Constitutional, political and social reforms in Turkey, Peace-building Initiatives and Imrali Peace Process: The role of the international community and the EU in promoting justice and democracy in Turkey, The Kurdish Democratic Project: Strategies and policies to bring peace to the Middle East.
Salih Muslim, president of the PYD will also be speaking about the revolution in Rojava.
