After Erdoğan’s threats, two major explosions rocked Belgium capital Brussel’s Zaventem International Airport this morning. Minutes later, there was a third explosion in the metro station Maalbeek in the city center. Reports say the airport explosions killed 13 people, while a further 10 people were killed in the metro station. 35 people are reported injured.
Two major explosions rocked Zaventem International Airport in Belgium’s capital Brussels this morning. Reports say 13 people lost their lives in the explosions and a further 35 people were injured.
There was a third explosion in the Maalbeek metro station minutes after the explosions in the airport. 10 people are reported dead in this third explosion. Maalbeek metro station is a mere couple of hundred meters away from the European Parliament and European Commission.
Security levels have been raised to the maximum in Belgium after the explosion. The metro and the train are cancelled and Zaventem International Airport is closed.
EU WARNS EMPLOYEES
There are thousands of EU employees and diplomats in the city as Brussels is the “capital” of the European Union. The EU has requested its employees to stay indoors.
TURKISH MINISTER: COULD BE ISIS
Turkey’s Minister for European Union Volkan Bozkurt, speaking before Belgian authorities, stated that the attack could be the doing of ISIS.
ERDOĞAN’S THREAT
Turkish President Erdoğan had said “There is no reason for bombs not exploding in Brussels or in any other city in Europe too.” Erdoğan had threatened Belgium because of the Kurdish tent in Brussels.
