Families of hundreds of ISIS leaders and members flee Raqqa

As the circle around ISIS tightens with the Operation Wrath of Euphrates, families of hundreds of leaders and members of the “Islamic State” organization flee the Raqqa city.

London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that more than 300 families of leaders and the foreign members of ISIS, in addition to several Syrian families have fled the Raqqa city which has been besieged by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from 3 directions.

Accordingly, these families escaped using water boats and ferries which transferred them from Raqqa city to the southern bank of Euphrates River, and then some of these families fled to Deir ez-Zor Province, and the others went to the eastern countryside of Hama.

SOHR pointed out that this mass flee of foreign families from Raqqa city comes after the Syrian Democratic Forces backed by warplanes of the International Coalition were able to besiege the city and parts of the its countryside, through closing the road of Raqqa – Deir ez-Zor, and controlling villages at the administrative border between Raqqa – Deir ez-Zor during the past 48 hours.

Fighters of the YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have cut the supply routes to Raqqa from the west, north and east, and advanced up to 5-8 kilometers to the city. ISIS gangs are reported to be using only the southern direction for reinforcements under quite difficult conditions.
