Families of Roboski victims demand justice

Families of thirty four civilians who were slaughtered by warplanes in Roboski village of Uludere/Þýrnak on 28 December 2011 have demanded justice today in a protest demonstration in front of Þýrnak Courthouse.

Reading the press release in front of the Courthouse on behalf of families, victim Serhat Encu’s brother Veli Encu pointed out that the slaughter had been carried out deliberately and purposely. Encu noted that the families of victims regarded this event as a crime against humanity and said the followings; “It is obvious that the attitude displayed by the AKP government and the prime minister in particular since the day of the event intends to cover up this slaughter. We see that the AKP government which now seeks after new scenarios tries to cover up the event by not dismissing and arresting a single person in connection with the event which occurred two months ago.”

Remarking that the prime minister and government spokesmen intended to present the event as justifiable by pointing at some earlier slaughters, Encu continued as follows; “We, as families of victims, call on the prime minister to immediately end this injustice and unlawfulness and to ensure the trial of perpetrators before the law. We will resort to all kind of legal ways until the penalization of the perpetrators of this slaughter. The conscience of the families of victims has once again been hurt with the arrest of their relatives. When will an end be brought to this unjustness by those who talk about right, law, democracy and justice?”

Encu continued demanding the release of all relatives of victims who were arrested after the slaughter and remarked that the responsibility for further potential deaths would belong to political and government institutions.

Encu said everybody should object to this injustice and underlined that the victims of Roboski have done nothing to deserve slaughter and arrests.

The press statement ended demanding support to the campaign launched with the slogan ‘Justice for Roboski just to spite borders’.
