Family of HDP party council member abused by police during house raid in Istanbul

Turkish police stormed the flat of HDP party council member Livan Orman in Istanbul, abusing family members and dragging them across the floor.

On Friday, Turkish police stormed the flat of HDP party council member Livan Orman but did not find him there. Instead, the police attacked the family.

Dragged across the floor and kicked

Orman's father, Mehmet Orman, told the Mezopotamya news agency (MA) that the police tried to break down the door in the early hours of the morning without ringing the bell first. He tried to open the door and fell to the ground when the police broke it down.

"They forced us to lie down on the floor. At least twenty police officers attacked us at the same time. They dragged me across the floor and started kicking me. I was kicked in the shoulder and in the back. Not one or two people, but all of them went against us. We were treated inhumanely. When we protested against this and asked why they were doing this, they started calling us names. My wife was also beaten when she intervened," Mehmet Orman said.

Verbal attacks

Regarding the search of the family flat, Osman said, "They threw the books around the flat and rummaged through the beds. They even broke the slatted frame of our bed. We were treated very badly and they took away our phones. They stayed in the house for half an hour and kept calling us names."

Family to take legal action

Orman stated that the police officers then left the house and, after a short time, called him and told him that his son had been detained. The family was not allowed to see him. Orman demands the immediate release of his son and the others who were detained. The family had the marks of the police beating certified in hospital and will file a lawsuit.

Raid against HDP Youth Council
