Metin Göktepe, a young journalist with the left-wing Evrensel daily, was found dead in an open area in Eyüp, Ýstanbul on 8 January 1996. He had previously been taken into custody by police while he was trying to cover a new story about prisoners who had died in a state prison. Göktepe suffered heavy tortured and was, his family accused, killed by police.
Fifteen years on the family of the young reporter demand the trial of not only the police officers who killed the journalist but also the politicians and senior security officials of the time for their involvement in the murder.
