Fascist attacks on HDP offices continue

Attacks by fascist groups on HDP election offices and members are continuing in the pre-election period.

Attacks by fascist groups on HDP election offices and members are continuing in the pre-election period. While the HDP election office in the Sarız district of Kayseri was attacked by a fascist group today, HDP members in Isparta were attacked by another fascist group carrying sticks and machetes.

The attack in the Sarız district of Kayseri, carried out by unknown persons, caused major damage to the election office of the HDP. The attack was carried out at night. When the HDP members came to the office in the morning, the windows were broken and the furniture inside was damaged. The police are investigating the CCTV records, while the HDP Sarız branch co-chair İlhan Kılıç filed an official complaint at the police HQ in the district.

Kılıç said there is a strong potential in Sarız for the HDP, adding that the HDP had not been able to organise itself in the district because of threats and attacks and therefore the people had previously voted for the AKP, CHP and the MHP for the lack of an alternative. Kılıç said HDP’s opening an election office in the district and pursuing election work has created discomfort in some circles, which had organised these attacks in an attempt to prevent the HDP getting stronger. Kılıç said they will not step back in the face of these dirty attacks, but continue their work to gain optimum votes in the town from the people who are in favour of democracy.

In the meantime a group of fascists attacked HDP members in Isparta with sticks and machetes, wounding 2 persons.

10 students, who are members of the HDP in Isparta, were attacked by a group of fascists at 03:00 last night while they were returning home. They were stopped by a group of 30 people who blockaded the road with cars and were attacked by the group with sticks and machetes. While one student was wounded in the head with a machete, another one was wounded as the attackers drove a car at him.

Meanwhile, the HDP election office in the Gulistan neighbourhood of Isparta was also attacked by unknown people at around 01:00 last night. The attackers first broke the windows of the office and then damaged furniture inside. It has been reported that the police detained one of the attackers.

In the meantime, another attack was carried out on the HDP election office in the Gölbaşı district of Adıyaman, where the party flags hanging in front of the HDP’s office were taken down and set on fire by unknown people.
