Female prisoners on hunger strike for 26 days

The indefinite and non-alternate hunger strike started by 31 inmates in Tarsus Type T Women’s Prison has left 26 days behind.

Prisoners in Tarsus Type T Women’s Prison have launched an indefinite and non-alternate hunger strike when conditions did not improve after their 5-day warning hunger strike against torture, pressures, right violations and mistreatment in prison. 31 women launched an indefinite-irreversible hunger strike on August 15 and Sozan Acar, one of the prisoners, is said to have stopped her hunger strike due to health issues.

Demands of the female prisoners are as follows; “Recognition of legal rights, implementation of prison bylaws, prosecution and punishment of prison officers who torture and batter prisoners on entry, processing of the petitions and letters sent by prisoners, ending strip searches when entering the prison, meeting the prisoners’ needs for the infirmary and the hospital, foregoing the implementation of the uniform practice.”
