Fierce clashes have broken out between western Kurdistan's People's Defense Units (YPG) and al-Qaeda linked Islamist gang groups in the village of Çava, of Serêkaniyê city in western Kurdistan, on Wednesday.

Clashes around the village erupted at noontime after YPG fighters have liberated the mainly Arabic village of Elok, located seven km away from the Serêkaniyê city, at around 11 pm yesterday following two days of fierce clashes with ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and ash-Sham) and al-Nusra Front.

The armed groups are using heavy weapons during the clashes which are reported to be continuing.

The armed radical Islamist groups have reportedly suffered heavy losses in the Elok village which has been a scene of severe clashes since 14 September. The village has been taken after the operation YPG launched on 16 Sept. to clear the region of radical Islamist groups.

On the other hand, nine members of the gang groups were killed in the Susik village of Tal Abyad (Girê Spî) city on Tuesday evening. Four among them were killed in the YPG attack near the village, while five others in Til Exder village died as a result of the explosion of a cannon ball they meant to fire on the Susik village.

Some 81 gang members were killed in the "Martyr Dilovan and Aleppo Martyrs" operation YPG launched on 15 September in Tal Abyad (Girê Spî) as part of the "Şehîd Çekjin Revolutionary Operation" they started early September in response to the attacks of al-Qaeda linked Islamist gang groups fighting against them. According to hospital sources, over 40 wounded members of the gang groups were rushed to Turkish hospitals with ambulances.
