The first fire of Newroz, Kurdish New Year, has been lighted in Rojava, West Kurdistan, where the fight against ISIS gangs is continuing.

People in the Canton of Efrîn lighted the first Newroz fire on hills overlooking the village of Diraqliyê.

Hundreds from the village of Dirqaliyê danced the traditional Kurdish 'halay' around the fire, chanting slogans “Long Live Leader Apo", "Long Live YPG/YPJ resistance", and "Happy Newroz".

Newroz fires in villages in the Canton of Efrîn are lighted between 13-20 March on high hills every year. The mas celebration takes place at the canton center on the 21st.
