Former HDP administrator receives 7 years in prison

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Midyat district branch former co-chair, Filiz Işık has been sentenced to 6 years, 10 months and 15 days in prison without any evidence for the fabricated accusations.

The final hearing of the case against HDP Midyat district branch former co-chair Filiz Işık was held at the Mardin 2nd High Criminal Court on Tuesday. Işık is accused of “membership in a terrorist organization” based on the statements of an anonymous witness.

Işık, who is jailed in Elazığ T Type Closed Prison, attended the hearing through sound and video information system (SEGBİS).

Işık denied the accusation against her, emphasizing that there was no evidence in the case file apart from her political activities and her service as an executive in the HDP, and demanded her released.

Işık's lawyer, Cihan Güçlük, said that the allegation against his client was based entirely on the statements of an anonymous witness, noting that the file consisted of abstract allegations. The lawyer demanded his client’s release.

The court sentenced Işık to 6 years, 10 months and 15 days in prison and decided for the continuation of her detention.
