Four-year-old boy died in tent fire

Four year-old Ekrem Yaralý died burning in a tent fire at around 23.00 last night. Ekrem’s mother and three sisters also received serious burns in the fire which erupted in one of the tents set up for quake survivors in the eastern province of Van on Friday.

The incident took place in Karpuzalan village where three children, Bahar (8), Ýsmail (4) and Mikail Tolukan (12), died the same way on 18 November. The fire last night was reportedly caused by a heating stove in the Yaralý family's tent.

It was too late to save Ekrem when parents realized the fire which erupted when they left the tent for a short while. Mother Güllü and her mother-in-law achieved to save three children with injuries. They found Ekrem’s entirely burnt body when they tried to reach him in the fire.

Crime scene investigators and prosecutor examined the area after the fire.

The body of four-year-old boy was taken to Regional Research Hospital. He will be buried in Karpuzalan village today.

People in the area tell that they live under dangerous conditions in Iranian tents which could easily catch fire from a slightest sparking. They complain that these Iranian tents were given to them as they weren’t demanded by anyone from other 13 villages.

Villagers call for sensitivity, warning that many more people will die if necessary measurements aren’t taken by authorities.
