'Freedom for Öcalan' march from Cizre district of Şırnak to the main Kurdish city Amed continues on the second day. Following the first pause last night, the march resumed early in the morning today.
Demonstrators demanding freedom for Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan are expected to walk 37 kilometers a day before reaching the main Kurdish city Amed for Newroz, Kurdish New Year, celebration on 21 March.
After walking 25 kilometers, hundreds of people joining the march spent the night in the village of Sivikê where they danced the traditional 'halay' around the fires they lighted, and were visited by large numbers of people from surrounding villages and districts. Demonstrators stayed in tents while some of the elderly joining the march were hosted by local people insisting to put them up in their houses.
